ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT
This month's profile is sports anchor Susie Wargin. Susie has become a fixture on the Denver sports scene over the past 10 years, with a long stint on the top rated sports talk radio show, and then moving to the top rated KUSA/ 9 news in TV broadcasting. Susie mostly anchors sports on the AM news show, but also hosts the CSU Football wrap-up show, does gear reviews with Rocky Mountain Sports, and also does frequent 10 PM anchor duties when needed! Susie is a Colorado native, skiing since she was five, and riding her bike as long as she can remember. She has been doing the Courage Classic (a big 3 day benefit ride in the mountains) for years, and when asked to do a triathlon, figured at least she could do ok on the bike!
Susie tells us that right now, she is focusing on doing lots of swimming, cycling and running as she was accepted into the Ironman in Coeur d' Alene this coming summer, and that is the bike goal for this year too. Susie has a schedule that makes most type A's look like total slackers-plus she is married, and her husband and 2 kids do all the family stuff too. I found out her secret though-the woman doesn't apparently need sleep! She confessed that she will wake up at 1 am to work out, and is at the station at 3AM for the morning show! While you always expect TV people to be nice on air, Susie is always friendly and congenial 24/7! Susie named her Diablo RS "Pinky" , and besides the color being her favorite thing about the bike, she loves the smoothness of the Diablo, and the fact that the Showtime shifters are easy to operate after getting out of the water with cold hands that don't want to work well. Judging from Susie jumping up in the standings at races, Pinky is doing her job! Susie did a 70.3 this fall in a bit over 5 hours, finishing in the top portion of her age group- and took a podium spot this summer in a big duathlon! We thank Susie for selecting Sampson for her ride to the top, and look forward to seeing her continue to have fun with her triathlons! |
